Sorry it's been so long

I have been so busy, here are some catch up photos: This first set is for a fabric journal I was commissioned to make for someone's daughter's birthday.

This second set of photos is the bound completed set from the swap we all did.

Now I have to go and get on again because I have another journal I have been commissioned to make.

Using canvases as bookboards

I had originally started a journal like this for the 2007 BJP, but lost interest. However, there are clear instructions here:

Perhaps i'll try again :}

Many of these canvases in different sizes are available incredibly cheap at dollar stores, Walmarts and the like. Occassionaly an art supply store will also have them on sale.

English embroidered bookbindings

OH, these are GORGEOUS!!! From Project Gutenberg, this book was originally published in 1899. The pictures obviously are in black and white, but i'm sure a search online would turn up colour photos from museums. There are both descriptions of the books and "how-to's" in the main book. Project Gutenberg itself has a vast compendium of needlework books from every era possible, with subjects from hat making and needlelace to book binding and "fancywork" of all sorts. All are available as free downloads, and most give you a "main site" so you can see what it is before you choose to download.

The photo above(or wherever Blogger put it!) :"The most decorative, and in many ways the finest, of all the remaining embroidered books of the time of Elizabeth is now at the Bodleian Library at Oxford. It is one of the 'Douce' Bibles, printed in London in 1583, and probably bound about the same time. It was the property of the Queen herself, and is bound in crimson velvet, measuring 17 by 12 inches."

Blogged mostly here:

I'm not actually sure what to call this piece--it could be looked at as a book, a box or a bundle! I created it from inspiration found in a dream, after a severe creativity blank/rut.
